HAMELIN – Starlit Production

Two production within 2 weeks of each other. One with HKIS and one with Starlit. Each student devised, each very strong focus – almost political with their messages. Maybe a sign of the times and recent world manoeuvres.  A good thing is that productions are a great avenue for expressing oneself, and that’s got to be a plus…

HKIS MS Legally Blonde Jr production

The Hong Kong International School‘s Middle School Tech-Know-Wise crew once again have provided outstanding technical design, set-up, operation and de-rig of our largest technical achievement for the 2015-2016 school year. The 8 member crew (below) supported the Middle School drama department’s Legally Blonde Jr production. Directed by Drama teacher / director  John Mulhall. Four afternoon performances…

ISTA AIS – Singapore – March 2016

I write this siting at the Chiangi airport, Singapore, less than 2 hours’ after our final sharing at the International School Theater Association‘s [ISTA] Australian International School [AIS], Middle School three day festival. My immediate response to the event, map art from the exhaustion, returns to a familiar: the kids have once again been creative…

The Starlit Voice production of the script ‘NORMAL‘ by Paul Wallis (UK) run at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, McAulay Studio through 10th – 13th Dec, 2015 has been a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding process to be involved with. Alongside Starlit Voice director Vince Warren I’ve been working with a small group of technically focused students through multiple Saturday sessions at…

Day 2 on site with Starlit

Here we are at day 2 of a 6 day booking at the HK Arts Centre. The interesting thing is how the Starlit students have spoken about how they are enjoying being involved in the ‘behind the scenes’ processes.  Plans have remained that the Starlit students design, set up & operate all technical aspects of…

Final show – all good

The last show and all went well. All the set up and tuning turned out well.  Funny how a shattered 2 KW Profile lens can make a great gobo:)  innovative minds at work…  Director John Mulhall thanks the student cast and crew for a job well done.  I was given a nicely smelly gift too….

Adventures of Yoshi and the Tea Kettle – running well @ HKIS

The Tech-Know-Wise crew are now on their third of four performances and all is well. Adjustments / fine tuning has continued daily. Here’s hyper-cardioid microphone adjustments.  The students set up a three camera live recording system to record the final two shows.   It amazes me again how focused the students are when doing such tasks….

Ready to run, almost…

Inputting the lighting cues with Hong Kong International School, Middle School drama production director, John Mulhall. A creative, time consuming and comforting process.  The Tech Know Wise crew are working from the marked up script. Nearly ready to run.  A few more light adjustments (always some more to do …)  The basics area ready to…
